02I Actually Tried Making a Simple 3DCG Piece in Blender

I think you now have a sense of what Blender is. But can I actually use it myself? — that's probably what's on your mind.

So this time, I actually made something simple in Blender. I didn't use any complex modeling knowledge. I just moved the cube that appears in the center of the screen, added basic shapes (primitives) like the sphere, and changed their materials. When I tried the move shortcut, the cube shifted with a light touch. I added a sphere, a cylinder, and a torus (donut shape) and lined them up side by side — and somehow, these plain gray shapes started to look like art, just like that.

Finally, I added materials like glass and marble. The moment those gray shapes gained texture, they suddenly started to look like a finished piece. That moment of transformation was, for me, the most satisfying part of this whole exercise.

Actually, the main visual for this article was made the same way — by setting materials on primitive shapes. I hope this gives you a real sense of just how much a single change in texture can transform something, even without any special modeling.

What I learned by actually doing it is that just a few clicks and keystrokes are enough to turn into something that genuinely looks like "a shape." Of course, I made mistakes along the way. But the experience of going from nothing to some kind of shape was, in itself, much less of a hurdle than I'd expected.

03What Do You Actually Do to Create 3DCG Work in Blender?

What I just tried actually traced through several processes in order. Moving the cube was the "shaping" process; adding color was the "deciding the look" process. The basic flow for creating 3DCG work in Blender is: shape it → decide the look → set the light and camera → export.

04In the AI Era, You Can Learn Blender by Asking AI

This is the part I most want you to take away from this article.

Until recently, if you ran into an operation you didn't understand in software like Blender, all you could do was search the web yourself. You'd look up similar questions, struggle through outdated information or explanations for a different version, and somehow arrive at an answer. That used to be normal.

Now it's different. You can ask an AI like ChatGPT or Claude directly: "What's this button for?" or "What's causing this error?" You can even paste a screenshot of an error message and ask, "What should I do about this?" We're now in an era where you can learn Blender with the feeling of having a knowledgeable person sitting right beside you.

That said, AI isn't all-powerful either. You can have AI generate a rough draft of a 3D model, but it's rarely usable as your finished work just as it is.
